Ross Cooper of Rosca Horsemanship will be running an interactive workshop on Sunday 25th February at Derby College Equestrian Centre.
In his second talk of 2024, and final in the winter series of workshops, 'Recognising Dysfunction' will lead you through the all too common signs that are indicative of dysfunction in the horse.
- Can you recognise when your horse is unhappy?
- Are you aware of what emotions drive equine behaviour?
- Do you know healthy posture when you see it, and how to recognise it??
During our time together, Ross will cover how to recognise dysfunction in the horse, and common causes in training, handling and husbandry.
This will include the multiple emotional, behavioural and physical aspects that are indicative of dysfunction, the link between the three, and most importantly, how to help you recognise them for improved welfare and communication.
This workshop will challenge both common misconceptions about horse behaviour and how a horse should be ridden.
The evening will follow Ross's known relaxed and informative teaching style, include a presentation talk, encouraged constructive discussion throughout followed by some interactive learning experiences!

Rosca Horsemanship will be running a strengthening and suppleness clinic at Derby College Equestrian Centre on Sunday 10th March at 9.30am.
As the promotion of functional movement for the horse is a key part of Ross's horsemanship training programme, this exciting new clinic will look at how the adaptation of specific exercises will help each of the horses on the clinic improve their own co-ordination, activate muscles specific to them and all importantly how the handler can help or hinder these aspects!
As a behavioural specialist and Equine Sports and Remedial Massage Therapist, Ross will guide each of you through a number of innovative exercises to aid your horse specifically in recruiting specific muscle groups necessary for longevity, whether a horse is non-ridden or ridden, increase their range of movement and promote suppleness in a way where the body and mind work together.
We will also take a look at the emotional-physical link that can work in unison when it comes to releasing tension through the body to help with better functional movement.
This clinic will focus on groundwork exercises, with a ridden continuation of this clinic in later 2024.
Please note this clinic is not a substitute for veterinary or medical advise, nor to be used as diagnosis for any form of lameness issue, and should not be sought as such.

Join Rosca Horsemanship for a weekend horsemanship camp at CHAPS Collingham Horse Adventure Park, Orchard Stables, Collingham in Newark, on Saturday 10th August 2024. - Sunday 11th August 2024.
During your time with Rosca Horsemanship at Collingham Horse Adventure Park, Ross will seek to help you develop your horsemanship and mutual communication between you and your horse both on the ground and from the saddle.
Following Ross's well-known teaching style, CHAPS the weekend will create a relaxed learning environment to progress your horsemanship as individuals, enhance your skills, learn more about your horse and all whilst meeting likeminded people.
Ross will seek to help you improve your own skill as a horseperson as we navigate the new and challenging obstacles that the adventure park has to offer, developing feel and to strengthen your relationship.
Saturday will consist of an introduction to the course with the first day primarily focusing on groundwork, establishing confidence, communication and the building blocks to be able to manoeuvre around the obstacles found on the course.
Sunday will be a natural progression from Saturday, for each individual, where we will progress ground-skills or progress to riding under saddle, again, working to improve effective communication, body control and manoeuvrability with what the course presents; riding will always be optional, it is not a necessity.
Each day we will break around lunchtime for a picnic up in the trailer feel to rest and recharge before the afternoon.
There will be ample opportunity through the day for Ross to offer real-time demonstrations on the ground and from the saddle with your horses, as and when the opportunity arises.
Private lessons will be available with Ross in the arena before and after the clinic should anyone wish for some extra tuition over the weekend (additional charges occur).
Please arrive no later than 9.30am on Saturday 10th August to give your horse time to settle in to the surroundings, and do bring extra hay nets for your horses lunchtime break.
